The University of Houston Concert Chorale

This choir is the university’s first major choir. Under the direction of Betsy Cook Weber, the ensemble has performed for four TMEA conventions and three national conventions since 2002. Since 2009, the ensemble has participated in international, prestigious competitions and regularly wins awards there.

In 2018 they participated in the Bela Bartok International Choral Competition (1st place) in Hungary, in the European Grand Prix in Italy in 2019 and in 2022 in the Grieg International Choral Competition, (1st place, Mixed Choirs) in Norway.

The choir performs with the Houston Symphony, the early music orchestras Ars Lyrica and Mercury Houston and The Eagles, among others.

Dr. Betsy Cook Weber – conductor
Dr. Betsy Cook Weber is a Madison Endowed Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. She teaches a full load of coursework, oversees the large and varied choral area at the Moores School and is also highly active internationally as a conductor, clinician, adjudicator, and lecturer. The University of Houston Moores School Concert Chorale, which she directs, has established a reputation as one of the world’s finest collegiate choirs. She holds degrees from the University of North Texas, Westminster Choir College (Princeton, NJ), and the University of Houston.

Dr. Weber frequently prepares singers for early music orchestras Ars Lyrica and Mercury Houston and is also routinely called upon to prepare choirs for touring shows, including Josh Groban, Andreas Bocelli, NBC’s Clash of the Choirs, Telemundo’s Latin Grammy’s, Star Wars in Concert, and the Eagles.
