Samford University A Cappella Choir
The Samford University A Cappella Choir was founded in 1939 and serves as the flagship of this university. Every two years the choir travels internationally. It frequently participates in international choral competitions, winning all of the top awards at the 2018 Laurea Mundi competition in Budapest, Hungary and the 2016 Šiauliai Cantat in Lithuania.
Philip L. Copeland – conductor
Philip L. Copeland, conductor, is Professor of Music and is in his thirteenth year as Director of Choral Activities at Samford University. Choirs under his direction have distinguished themselves nationally and internationally, winning significant awards in eight international competitions and performing concerts in conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Collegiate Choral Organization, and on the stage of Carnegie Hall. A long-time church musician, Dr. Copeland has over thirty years of experience in sacred music and serves at St. Luke’s Episcopal in Birmingham.
