The Nefesch Vocal Ensemble

Germany

The Nefesch Vocal Ensemble was founded in 2019 by its director Constanze Pitz. Currently, 26 singers from all over North-Rhine-Westphalia combine their many years of vocal and choral expertise in this young mixed ensemble. In a biblical context, the Hebrew word nefesh means both ‘throat’ and ‘soul’. The ensemble embodies this indivisible unity through a strong vocal presence and touching musical expression: With soulful tonality in the truest sense of the word.
Apart from choral music of all eras, the ensemble focuses on 20th and 21st century a capella literature, driven by a great curiosity for the tonal diversity and expressivity of contemporary vocal music.

Constanze Pitz – conductor
Conductor Constanze Pitz studied Music Education and Choral Conducting (bachelor’s) at Detmold University of Music and completed the master’s program in Choral Conducting with Timo Nuoranne at Robert Schumann Conservatory Düsseldorf in July 2017.

The voice as an instrument is the focal point of her passion for choral music as well as her artistic integrity – be it as conductor, be it as vocal teacher. Her personal ambition of performing contemporary choir literature at a professional level led to her founding the Nefesch Vocal Ensemble.
