Opening concert CantaRode: what an evening!
The opening concert of the CantaRode international choir festival was a party. A full theatre with an audience that enjoyed everything.
The young singers who participated in Maria Guinand’s youth clinic were the first to perform. “Granny” Maria, as she introduced herself, stood in front of a group of kids who were visibly enthusiastic and full of dedication to show and present what they had learned from her that afternoon. A standing ovation from the audience was very much deserved.
The performance of the workshop participants “Feel the Spirit,” the spiritual work of John Rutter, performed by the occasional choir of 100 singers, soloist Fenna Ograjensek, conducted by Brady Allred, captivated the audience from beginning to end. An incredible achievement by choir, soloist and conductor who had mastered this impressive repertoire in such a short time.
The presentation of the 13 choirs present caused quite a stir. The stage turned into a “rotating” platform where all the choirs showed the judges what they could expect in the coming days during the competition rounds. What a diversity in composition of the choirs, performance and singing.
The evening ended with a performance from all choirs. For many, especially the second song “An Irish blessing” caused goose bumps.
