The International Choral Festival CantaRode 2019 started Thursday MayPictures CantaRode 2019 30 with a great concert. After the opening speech by chairman Peter Thomas of CantaRode and Jos Som the mayor of Kerkrade, eight of the nine choirs that participate in the competition of CantaRode presented themselves. A choir from the Philippines was still on its way to Kerkrade at that time. The choirs all sang a song from their own country, whether or not in local costumes.

The main act of the opening concert was a performance by the Calmus Ensemble from Leipzig. The audience reacted enthousiast on their special music that sounded classical and at the same time very modern. The ensemble got an enormeous applause from the audience.

All choirs can be heard again on Friday and Saturday during the CantaRode competition or during concerts in the region.
