Prestigious and High-Quality Event

CantaRode has great ambitions and aims to grow into a prestigious and high-quality event. The festival takes place in the Dutch city of Kerkrade, near the German and Belgian borders, and targets a broad international audience. It is organized in a professional setting, with a jury consisting of internationally renowned conductors.

Thanks to its unique concept, the high level of participating ensembles, innovative programming, and stunning venues, CantaRode is an attractive destination for choirs from both the Netherlands and abroad.

The festival is a member of the international choir network Choral Festival Network.

Objective

CantaRode aims to become a meeting place for the best choirs worldwide. Additionally, the festival seeks to promote cultural exchange between countries and encourage choral singing in the broadest sense.

The CantaRode Foundation achieves this by organizing an international choir festival and offering high-quality concerts to a wide audience. The versatility and universal value of choral singing are central to this mission.

Festival Components

The choir festival features a festival competition for national and international chamber choirs in the following categories: equal voice choirs (women’s and men’s choirs) and mixed choirs. Participation is by selection through the artistic committee, with selection criteria outlined in the festival regulations.

In addition to the competitive program, various concerts are organized throughout the region. Participating choirs perform alongside local choirs or musical ensembles. Furthermore, creative and inspiring workshops are held in and around Kerkrade in collaboration with local choirs and/or music groups.
