Sophia Chamber Choir

The Sophia Chamber Choir is a unique, creative formation that strives to perform high-quality choral music. The ensemble was founded in October 2007 by Ivan Bogdanov and is primarily concerned with the performance of early music. Since late 2010, the company has been directed by Oleksiy Shamritsky, who at the time was a fifth-year student at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine. Since 2012, the choir has regularly participated in festivals such as ‘KIEVMYUZIK fest’ and ‘Premieres of the season’ Easter Assembly.

Since 2014, the choir has participated in international competitions. In 2022, it won several first prizes at the ‘Ave Verum International Choral Competition’ in Austria and the ‘Polifonico Guido d’Arezzo’ in Italy. In October 2022, the choir became the absolute winner of the choral competition in Tolosa, Spain. It has been nominated to participate in the EGP competition in the city of Debrecen in Hungary.

Oleksii Shamritsky – conductor
Oleksii Shamritsky has been artistic director of the choir since 2010. He graduated cum laude from the Kyiv National Musical Academy in 2011. In August 2016 he was appointed chief conductor of the Academic Chamber Choir “Khreschatyk”, in September – choirmaster of the National Ensemble for Classical Music named after B. Liatoshynsky.
