Chamber Choir Giocoso
From speech therapy to remedial education and from textile design to journalism, the girls of Giocoso all have their own interests and background. Every week the twenty young ladies travel from all over the country to their home base in Weert to pursue their common passion: singing. The singers mainly perform (light) classical music. And the choir does not go unnoticed in the choral world. Both nationally and internationally, Giocoso performs at top level. Giocoso’s most notable achievement is its recent participation in the European Choir Games and the Grand Prix of Nations in Gothenburg (Sweden). The ladies became European Champions in two categories in August 2019 and took no less than four gold medals (scoring above 85 out of 100 points) back to the Netherlands.
The conductor of the choir is Rita Scheffers. She studied piano, church music (organ and conducting) and organ at the Conservatory in Maastricht with Jan Raas, Jean Wolfs and Frans van Beveren, among others. In recent years she has won various awards at national and international festivals with Giocoso and vocal ensemble Genti from Weert, among others. With a number of her youth choirs she has created a number of full-length shows.
